High-Temperature Sealing Cords & Glass Fiber Cords
TEXTILE SEALING CORDS · INDUSTRY
Flexible Sealing Cords for Joints, Grooves and High-Temperature Sealing Applications
High-temperature sealing cords are flexible textile sealing elements for thermally demanding joints, grooves, doors, flaps and connection areas. Their round cross-section and textile construction allow them to conform to different sealing geometries and installation conditions.
Fingerhuth offers sealing cords made from E-glass fiber, HR glass fiber, silica fiber, AES fiber and ceramic fiber. Depending on the material and application requirements, twisted, braided or knitted cord constructions are available.
With diameters from 3 to 50 mm, the product range covers a variety of sealing gaps and groove geometries. Material, diameter and cord construction are selected according to the thermal, structural and mechanical requirements of the application.
High-Temperature Sealing Cord Materials for Different Temperature Ranges
The fiber material determines the fundamental temperature range and key characteristics of the sealing cord. Five material groups are available for different temperature ranges, sealing applications and mechanical requirements.
Proven base material for flexible sealing and insulation applications at moderate operating temperatures.
Higher-temperature glass fiber grade for demanding thermal applications beyond the typical operating range of conventional E-glass.
High-SiO₂ fiber material for flexible sealing applications and demanding high-temperature environments.
High-temperature fiber with increased biosolubility and reduced biopersistence for demanding sealing and insulation applications.
High-temperature fiber for particularly demanding thermal loads and specialized industrial sealing applications.
High-Temperature Sealing Cords at a Glance
Our product range includes flexible textile sealing cords for a wide range of thermal and mechanical requirements. Depending on the material, twisted, braided or knitted designs are available in diameters from 3 to 50 mm.
| Fiber Material | Construction | Temperature | Dimensions |
|---|---|---|---|
| E-Glass Fiber | Glass fiber sealing cord, round, twisted, braided or knitted | up to 550 °C | Ø 3–50 mm |
| HR Glass Fiber | Glass fiber sealing cord, round, twisted, braided or knitted | up to 750 °C | Ø 3–50 mm |
| Silica Fiber | Silica fiber sealing cord, round, twisted, braided or knitted | up to 1000 °C | Ø 3–50 mm |
| AES Fiber | Round twisted AES fiber sealing cord, glass- or metal-reinforced | up to 1050 °C | Ø 3–50 mm |
| Ceramic Fiber | Round twisted ceramic fiber sealing cord, glass- or metal-reinforced | up to 1260 °C | Ø 3–50 mm |
Additional options: Depending on the cord grade, glass or metal reinforcements, impregnations, coatings and project-specific designs may be available.
Technical note: The stated temperatures refer to the respective material or cord design. Reinforcements, impregnations and coatings may have different temperature limits. Suitability must therefore be evaluated for the specific application and operating conditions.
CORD CONSTRUCTION · FLEXIBILITY · SEALING FUNCTION
Twisted, Braided or Knitted – Cord Construction Tailored to the Application
The suitability of a high-temperature sealing cord is determined by more than the fiber material alone. Cord construction, diameter, flexibility and behavior under compression also influence how the sealing cord conforms to grooves, joints and component geometries.
Twisted, braided and knitted constructions provide different textile characteristics. The appropriate design depends on the sealing application, required conformability, mechanical loads and actual operating conditions. Material, diameter and cord construction should therefore be considered together.
Select the Right Sealing Cord for Your Application and Operating Conditions
Selecting the appropriate high-temperature sealing cord requires consideration not only of temperature, but also of groove and gap geometry, required diameter, cord construction, mechanical loads and the required conformability of the seal.
