BATTERY FIRE PROTECTION · HV & TRACTION BATTERIESFire Containment Covers for HV and Traction Batteries
Custom-made high-temperature fire containment covers for HV batteries, traction batteries and complete battery systems – engineered for industrial production, battery handling, storage, testing and internal logistics.
BATTERY HANDLING · PRODUCTION · LOGISTICS · STORAGE
Custom-Made Fire Protection for Industrial HV and Traction Batteries
HV and traction batteries are key components of modern electric vehicles and electric drive systems. At the same time, their high energy density and the potential consequences of a thermal runaway or battery failure create specific safety requirements for production, handling, storage and internal logistics.
Fingerhuth fire containment covers have been specifically developed for the thermal shielding of complete HV batteries, traction batteries, battery modules and battery systems. They form a high-temperature-resistant textile barrier between the battery system and its immediate surroundings.
The covers are manufactured from high-temperature-resistant HR glass fabric with flame-retardant silicone coating on both sides. The material is designed for continuous temperatures of up to 1,000 °C and can withstand short-term thermal peak loads of up to 1,200 °C.
Since the dimensions, geometries and handling processes of high-voltage batteries can vary considerably, this product range deliberately has no predefined standard dimensions. Every fire containment cover is individually engineered and manufactured by Fingerhuth based on the customer-specific battery and process data.
ENGINEERED SAFETY · 100 % CUSTOM-MADE
No Standard Size – Engineered Specifically for Your Battery
High-voltage batteries differ not only in length, width and height. Their geometry, connections, mounting points, transport racks, fixtures and the operational processes surrounding the battery system can also vary considerably.
Fingerhuth therefore consistently relies on customer-specific manufacturing for fire containment covers for HV and traction batteries. There are no predefined standard sizes that the battery system has to fit into.
The engineering process can be based on battery dimensions, technical drawings, CAD data, sample components or defined installation spaces. Based on this information, we develop a textile construction tailored to the battery system and the intended operational process.
The position and number of handles, document pockets and other design details can also be adapted to the specific application. The result is not a universal cover, but a fire containment cover engineered for the individual battery and process requirements.
HIGH-TEMPERATURE MATERIAL · HR GLASS & SILICONE
HR Glass Fabric with Silicone Coating on Both Sides for High Thermal Loads
The protective performance of a fire containment cover begins with selecting a material capable of withstanding the high temperatures as well as the mechanical and electrical requirements encountered in industrial battery processes.
For our HV and traction battery covers, we use high-temperature-resistant HR glass fabric. The base fabric is coated on both sides with a flame-retardant silicone coating.
The material composite is designed for continuous temperatures up to 1,000 °C. Short-term thermal peak loads of up to 1,200 °C are possible.
When handling high-voltage batteries, the electrical properties of the material are important in addition to its thermal resistance. The material used has therefore also been tested for dielectric strength up to 2,000 V. The material construction thus addresses not only high thermal loads but also the specific requirements of industrial high-voltage battery applications.
The silicone coating also improves surface resistance and supports robust handling of the cover throughout industrial production, logistics and storage processes.
THERMAL BARRIER · SURROUNDING AREA PROTECTION
A High-Temperature-Resistant Barrier Between the Battery and Its Surroundings
During a thermal battery event, extremely high temperatures, flames, sparks and hot battery particles can develop within a very short period of time. In production and logistics areas in particular, other batteries, vehicles, equipment or combustible materials may be located in the immediate vicinity.
The fire containment cover encloses the battery system and forms a high-temperature-resistant textile barrier between the battery and its surroundings.
The purpose of the design is not to extinguish a battery fire by enclosing it within a sealed cover. Instead, the cover is designed to limit the spatial spread of flames, sparks and hot particles, thereby providing additional protection for adjacent areas.
It can therefore form part of an operational safety and emergency concept and provide an additional protective layer, particularly during temporary storage, battery handling, testing processes or when dealing with abnormal or potentially damaged battery systems.
HANDLING · INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION
Integrated Handles for Controlled Handling During Operational Processes
A fire containment cover must provide more than thermal protection. In everyday industrial use, simple and reproducible handling is also essential for reliably integrating a protective system into existing operational processes.
Our standard design therefore includes integrated handling handles. They facilitate placing, positioning and removing the cover around the respective battery system.
The number and position of the handles can be adapted according to the dimensions, geometry, weight of the cover and intended handling process.
This is particularly relevant for larger traction batteries, where the cover may be handled by several people or as part of a defined operational procedure.
